PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- There is a push to help more Philadelphians become first-time home owners.

Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America's home ownership event is a four step program aimed at turning low and moderate income people from home renters to owners.

This weekend NACA is holding its "Achieve the Dream" one-stop mortgage event at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. NACA CEO Bruce Marks says is the largest home ownership event in the state's history.

Philadelphia and the Greater Philadelphia area is a perfect place to purchase a home, because there's affordable housing here," Marks said. "You can buy a house maybe $20,000, and you can get $80,000 set aside to do the renovations to customize it the way you want."

Marks says the event includes workshops, as well as one on one counseling sessions to help people go from renters to owners.

"During the day you'll know whether you're pre-approved, full document underwriting, or what you need to get there," he explained.

The event, which is slated to host more than 5,000 potential home buyers, runs until Sunday, Dec. 2.

"If you're ever thinking about being a homeowner, this is the place to be," Marks said. "If you stick with this program you will be a home owner."
