PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Although the summer tourism season is coming to a close, a new alternate one is continuing.

It's called Beyond the Bell Tours, and started in February. Co-founder, Rebecca Fischer, says she was a tour guide for two years, before she came up with the idea.

"It's an invitation to tourists to go beyond the Liberty Bell," she said.

Fischer says she noticed that the traditional tours focus on men.

"Not many women are featured in mainstream tours of Philadelpha besides Betsy Ross," Fischer said.

So she and co-founder Joe Leroux have tours that focus on the city's historic women, queer community and political controversies.

"We talk about Frank Rizzo, we talk about the MOVE bombing and we talk about Octavius Cato," she said.
