PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A mini gourmet grocery opened Thursday inside Reading Terminal Market.

Reading Terminal Market's newest vendor is a gourmet Spanish grocery called A Taste Of Spain, and co-founder Alejandro Carabe says he hopes their presence here brings attention to Spanish culture and cuisine.

"Normally food follows people. There has been very strong settlement from other countries, and it's now time to have a bit of representation in the cuisine map in the city," he explained.

Market general manager Anuj Gupta explains it was literally a "fight" for them to open.

"Over the summer, we launched a competition to find new fresh food concepts. We called it the Fresh Food Fight, and Alex and Vanessa, who were already here as day stall operators here at Reading Terminal Market, they were the winners of that competition," Gupta said.

A Taste of Spain offers items such as fresh cured meats and cheeses, as well as olive oils, imported packaged food and Spanish salt.

"And we can explain to you where those products come from, how we use them and part of the culture behind the food," Carabe added.
