PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The School District of Philadelphia is investigating an allegation that the chair of the social studies department at Central High School distributed a flyer encouraging students to vote -- to "stop Republican voter suppression," and to "stop the Trump regime."

The chair of the Pennsylvania Republican Party and a Central High alumnus, Val DiGiorgio, says teacher Thomas Quinn is giving students false information.

"We just think it's an outrage for teachers to be indoctrinating children not based on facts but based on propaganda," he said.

The district has a policy against political activity on school grounds during school hours.

"We have reason to believe it is bigger than just this one teacher. We want the school district to investigate," DiGiorgio said. "I got a call from Dr. Hite yesterday, who I know and who I respect. He said he's looking into it."

District spokesman Lee Whack said in a statement that the district will remind employees of the policy against political activity as election day nears.
