PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Hundreds of thousands of drivers from our area are expected to hit the roads this July 4th week, but when is traffic expected to be the worst?

It appears Tuesday is going to be the busiest travel day of the week, according to AAA's Jana Tidwell.

"So if you're traveling for great distance on Tuesday, you definitely want to consider traveling during off peak times, early in the morning, late morning before lunchtime, before people leave for the day, and perhaps later in the evening," she explains.

But whatever day you hit the road, there will likely be lots of drivers alongside you

"We’re looking for the highest travel volume on record since AAA began tracking holiday travel 18 years ago," she said.

That includes over 630,000 travelers from the Philadelphia-area, the majority of them by car.

"There will be congestion and traffic out there on the roadways," she said.

Tidwell says be patient and prepared to wait.
