ATLANTIC COUNTY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities down the shore have closed the book on the 2012 murder of a radio talk show host who was also active in veterans affairs.

Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury handed down a term of life plus 30 years to 62-year-old Ferdinand "Freddy" Augello, a member of the Pagans motorcycle gang, for the slaying of radio host April Kauffman.

He had been running a drug ring with her husband, Dr. James Kauffman. When she threatened to expose the ring to authorities, April Kauffman was killed by another man hired by Augello, who subsequently died from a drug overdose.

She was found dead in the Linwood home she shared with her husband on May 10, 2012. She was 47.

The two men weren't charged until January of this year. James Kauffman killed himself in prison shortly thereafter while awaiting trial with Augello.
