PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Some improvements are coming to an intersection near you under a PennDOT initiative aimed at improving traffic signals.

While it won't solve everything, PennDOT’s Brad Rudolph said the traffic light improvements under the Green Light-Go project should improve daily commutes.

"Kind of upgrade the intersections with more modern equipment," he said. "Kind of harmonize traffic, improve flow. Municipalities will have better control of these signals."

Weather permitting, work is underway this week on Route 3 West Chester Pike through East and West Goshen and Westtown townships.

Rudolph said the project includes installing fiber-optic cables, adaptive signal control technology and four-way video detection systems.

"We install more modern equipment that kind of senses traffic, senses back-ups, adapts a little bit more quickly," he added.
