PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) —  Pennsylvania's Attorney General is taking on President Trump and his new acting U.S. Attorney General.

Josh Shapiro has joined with 14 of his colleagues from across the country to try to stop Matt Whitaker from carrying out his official duties.

The state attorneys general have filed an amicus brief in federal court, seeking a preliminary injunction against Jeff Sessions' successor.

In a statement, Shapiro says the states have concluded that "Whitaker's appointment is unlawful, ignores long-established vacancy succession statutes, and is in clear violation" of Congressional precedent by which the Deputy Attorney General serves in the event of a vacancy in the top job until a new appointee is confirmed.
