PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, especially for Pennsylvanians honoring the late Fred Rogers.

Gov. Tom Wolf announced earlier this month that May 23, the 143rd day of the year, will be known as "1-4-3 Day" — a tribute to Mister Rogers' favorite number.

The beloved children's show host used "143" to say "I love you" — each digit representing the number of letters in each word.

And on the 143rd day of the year, everyone is encouraged to show some love and be a good neighbor.

"Gov. Tom Wolf decided to proclaim 1-4-3 Day a day of kindness in Pennsylvania as a way to honor Fred Rodgers and also spread kindness," added Carrie Lepore, deputy secretary of marketing and tourism for the state.

Whatever you decide to do, Lepore said it doesn't have to be extravagant.

"You can do anything as simple as picking up a piece of trash that you see on the ground to volunteering at a food bank. This is meant to be simple and easy," she said.

For Tami Colquitt, who was strolling through LOVE Park with her friends, her act of kindness for 1-4-3 Day: "I think today I'm just going to walk up and hug a complete stranger, how about that?"
