PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio)  Starting Friday morning, Philabundance will open a drive-thru emergency food distribution site in the parking lot of Citizens Bank Park.

The distribution site will be open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday through June 26. Samantha Retamar with Philabundance says the drive-thru site is designed in part to help elderly people who may have concerns about going to a store or a walk-in distribution site.

“As well as folks who may be immunocompromised and people who just may be a bit more nervous to head out of their homes and into the stores right now. So this specific style distribution is ‘truck to trunk.’ There will be no contact. People just open their trunks and Philabundance will put those food boxes inside of your trunk and you can be on your way,” she explained.

You have to be in a vehicle to take part, and every car gets one share of food provisions, which is about 35 pounds of food.

Philabundance anticipates being able to serve 1,600 vehicles every Friday.

No type of documentation is necessary to receive the food.
