PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Shoe stores used to be full-service, with salesmen fitting kids for a new pair of kicks. Now, a couple of Philadelphia-based entrepreneurs can help you find the right size.

About 70 percent of kids are wearing the wrong size shoe, according to Carolyn Horner, one of the creators of Jenzy, a free app that allows parents to easily find their kids shoes that fit properly.

The app takes just seconds to use.

"Parents are turning to online retailers and reading reviews and buying multiple shoes online just to find one that fits. What Jenzy's technology does is we allow parents to take one photo of their child's foot to get an accurate size, and then we have the matching technology that uses the measurements to recommend the best size in each brand or style on our e-commerce store," Horner explained.

Wearing a shoe that is too small can affect a child's foot health for a lifetime, said Horner.

"By the time a child is 12 years old, their foot will grow to 90 percent of their adult size," she continued, "so there's a lot of growing and development in those formative years."

Horner also noted returns for online shoes run around 30 percent, but Jenzy is averaging less than than 5 percent on returns.

Since kids' feet grow so fast, parents can also set a reminder on the app when it's time for another fitting.
