PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — As holiday shopping encompasses every weekend from now until 2019, you'll have one less thing to worry about as you're driving around town.

The Philadelphia Parking Authority has announced that meter and kiosk parking will be free citywide every Saturday after 11 a.m., between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day.

"We want to encourage shoppers to come downtown and experience all the wonders and conveniences of holiday shopping in Center City and any of our bustling commercial districts," said PPA Executive Director Scott Petri.

Time limits on residential blocks, however, will still be enforced, as well as other parking violations.

PPA also announced a flat $8 rate for parking garages on Saturdays between 11 a.m. and midnight. The rate applies to six area garages:

Drivers can visit the garage management office to receive a discount validation ticket.
