PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A huge job fair at Temple University drew hundreds of businesses and people looking for work.

"This is Philadelphia's largest job fair event," said Michael Robinson who helped organize the 13th annual Lenfest North Philadelphia Workforce Initiative (LNPWI).

Robinson says this year’s event brought in a record number of employers.

"We have over 145 companies represented here and they're all hiring," he said.

There were also plenty of people looking to be hired.

"I am unemployed,” said Kelly Williams. “My background has been as a college professor, so I'm just trying to see how I can parlay my skills into other positions."

"I am a certified pay specialist, so I'm just trying to use that and see where it can be useful for me in here," Cherish Rollins said.

For company reps, the recruiting process includes a lot of glad-handing and quick assessments.

"We're looking for rapport building,” explained Jessica Bender, a recruiter for Connections IT Solutions in Exton.  “Can you build those relationships; are you coachable, do you have customer service experience? We can train the rest."

Reporter: Do you see it right away?

“Yeah, you know within the first few minutes if someone's going to be interested in the job and be successful," Bender said.

What are some of the tells that you look for?

"The energy level,” she explained. “When you're talking about the job you can see the facial expressions, see them light up or not light up. You can tell pretty quickly."
