PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) —  The Philadelphia Wings lacrosse in-game announcer is under fire after making an offensive comment about forward Lyle Thompson.

During the Wings home game against the Georgia Swarm, in-game announcer Shawny Hill told the crowd “let's snip the pony tail.” The comment was directed towards Thompson, whose is of Native heritage and is known for his long hair.

Thompson later said on Twitter, that the comment led to fans saying they were going to "scalp" him. He called Philly rans "ruthless" and said he hadn't "heard stuff like this since high school."

Both Hill and the Wings organization have issued apologies, Hill saying his words were "poorly chosen and were not intended as racially motivated."

He called this a "lack of knowledge on heritage and history" and says he wants to apologize to Thompson face-to-face.

The Wings call this "inadvertent yet offensive" and say they are taking "swift disciplinary measures" so this doesn't happen again.

We asked the team to detail what those measures would include; they have yet to respond.
