PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The first snow of the season gives Philadelphians a chance to have some fun in a winter wonderland.

For a lot of Philadelphians, Sunday Funday included taking advantage of the snow that lightly blanketed the region.

For Tom and his daughter Aaliyah, that meant a trip to the Belmont Plateau for some sledding and other snow related activities.

"We're big into the winter thing, we were going to go to Blue Mountain yesterday but we didn't quite get there, so this is the second best thing," he said.

Peter and his three-year-old son, Fox, used the first snow day of the year as a training day for bigger things to come.

"We're having so much fun doing snow angels and getting ready for all the stuff out in the snow, 'cause in two weeks we go out to Park City, Utah, so he'll get his first ski lessons out there," Peter said.

Brian Staley and his girls say the sledding conditions were perfect, but they could have used a little more of the white stuff.

"We weren't sure there was going to be enough snow, but we're doing fine," Staley said.

For Mike, who is from Lawncrest, a different approach was taken to enjoy this snowday.

"I'm fishing for carp. I can either sit at home, look out the window and think about carp fishing, or I can come down here and fish," Mike said.

His day started around 7 a.m., when he set up shop on Kelly drive and cast out three fishing poles into the Schuylkill River hoping to get a bite.

"I mean there's times of course where it's too windy or too nasty out, where you can't stand here and survive, or the current is too strong. But the snow doesn't slow me down," he said.

The consensus among many of the families out enjoying the snow is that their post-snowday fun will include a lot of hot chocolate, blankets and cuddling.
