PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The City Philadelphia has more than 120 parks and green spaces, and during Love Your Park week folks are being encouraged to check them out.

“We clean, green, and celebrate all of our public green, said Lindsey Walker with Fairmount Park Conservancy

She says the nice day program that starts May 11 is about more than just cleaning and greening.

“We have guided hikes, guided walks, guided bike rides,” she explains. “We have a learn to row clinic on the Schuylkill River.”

Elisa Ruse-Esposito with Philadelphia’s Parks and Recreation says their featured site is Marconi Plaza in South Philadelphia, where they'll make a consorted effort to bring neighbors together to help breathe new life into the park.

“We'll be picking up trash, we'll be mulching some trees, we'll be planting a lot of trees, a lot of clean and green throughout the park,” she said.

Ruse-Esposito says in the past, these special parks projects have helped bring neighborhoods together.

She says Vernon Park in the heart of Germantown is the perfect example.

“Being able to really find the resources needed to rebuild a lot of the infrastructure needs within that park and really showcase it for what it is, as a real jewel within that community,” she said.
