PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- While the pope is in Ireland, here in Philadelphia dozens gathered just steps away from the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul to demand action on behalf of victims of clergy sexual abuse.

Catherine Spoerl says she's bitter and angry.

"I'm here to represent my son James who was a victim and died two years ago," she explains. "He was a victim of child abuse for three years as an altar boy."

Her story is hard to hear, but she says she wants people to know about it.

Alyssa Duffner, an organizer for Catholics for Action Philadelphia, says they want the victims to be heard.

"That they feel supported and also that it can spark more of a movement for the legislative action we'll be calling for here," she said.

Elizabeth Breece, a mother of three, says she came out because she wants to be a part of the solution.

"Our bishops, they really haven't handled the situation well and we want to be a part of this," she said. "We want to help the survivors to heal and get justice."

Other like Arthur Baselice said, "It's time for action, no more talking."

"On behalf of my son and every other victim or survivor out there, we will get justice," Spoerl added.
