PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Boxer Meldrick Taylor has been arrested on aggravated assault charges by Philadelphia police after his landlord tried to evict him.

Police say two men showed up outside Taylor's home in the 2700 block of Lehigh Avenue around 11 p.m. Monday night to tell him he was being evicted in the morning.
Police say Taylor told the men he needed 30 days notice and then produced a handgun and pointed it at one of them. Officers were called, and Taylor barricaded himself inside.

Police say the former boxer told them he was not coming out. That's when the SWAT team was called to the scene, and after a 90-minute standoff, Taylor surrendered to SWAT officers without incident.

Taylor was once at the top of the boxing world.

He held the Junior Welterweight Title from 1988 to 1990 and the World Boxing Association Welterweight Title from 1991 to 1992. He was also a gold medalist at the 1984 Olympic games.
