PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Restaurants throughout the country are starting to offer free food and discounts to furloughed government workers, including in the Philadelphia region. And comfort food is on the menu.

The owners of the Pineville Fishtown and The Pineville Tavern in Pineville, Bucks County are offering comfort food to government workers not getting a paycheck.

"A free fried chicken dinner with corn bread and cole slaw," said Drew Abruzzese, the executive chef and part owner of the family businesses. "Chicken tenders and French fries for the kids, of course, and all of the non-alcoholic soft drinks are included."

Abruzzese says with so many federal workers feeling the impact of the partial government shutdown, it's the right thing to do.

"My father and I were just having a conversation about how people won't be receiving checks, won't be receiving money," he said. "It doesn't stand for what we stand for and it just doesn't seem right."

The offer is for dine-in only customers.

Just show government identification and enjoy.
