PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man is in custody after police connected him to a string of small fires set in West Philadelphia late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

Three homes were left damaged after the string of fires set on porches in the area of 52nd and Spruce streets. The first fire was started just before midnight. The other two followed about an hour later. All of them were extinguished before the houses were seriously damaged.

Mary Salter told CBS 3 Eyewitness News that a neighbor warned her of the fire on her porch before it got too big.

"I got real scared, because I didn't know if it was in my house, you know? But thank God it wasn't," she said.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man near the site of the third porch fire. He was questioned by police early Wednesday, but it is not yet clear if he has been charged.
