PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police have arrested a West Philadelphia man in connection with an AK-47 shooting in May that left one man seriously injured.

Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detective Division said the victim has been in the hospital and rehabilitation for weeks.

"As a result of him getting a little bit better and transferring over to a rehab center," he said, "we were able to finally interview him and get an identification of our suspect that we had developed of our suspect early on."

Jouvan Patterson, 29, of the 5400 block of Delancey Street, surrendered after being notified that police were looking for him.

"We did serve the arrest warrant at his house, and he wound up here Sunday afternoon and turned himself in," Walker added.

Walker said Patterson shot 50-year-old Mike Poeng in the hip while he was washing his car on May 5. It happened in the 300 block of 54th Street outside of the store Poeng operates.
