Police: Body of missing toddler found in North Philadelphia park

Officials say the child's body was discovered at Kemble Park.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The body of a toddler was discovered Tuesday partially buried in a wooded area of a park in North Philadelphia.

Philadelphia police say a 2-year-old girl was reported missing Monday night. Authorities launched an investigation, and those who had contact with the child were questioned.

"As the investigation developed, the caregiver led us to this location, where a body was discovered of a 2-year-old that was mostly buried with part of the head exposed," said Homicide Captain Jack Ryan.

The discovery was made in a wooded area near a basketball court in Kemble Park at Olney and Ogontz Avenues.

The identity of the child was being withheld pending an autopsy.

There was no initial word from police on the circumstances leading up to the child's disappearance. 

There were no immediate arrests.
