PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) --Authorities are investigating the theft of two large stained glass windows from a church in North Philadelphia.

It happened early Sunday morning at Unity Mission Church along the 1500 block of N. 16th Street.

"I was shocked," said Eric Terry, who supervises and maintains the church. "I was shocked that it happened."

Terry called police after he noticed someone had broken in and saw the windows were gone. He said the stolen windows, which are approximately 42 x 94 inches, have significant historical value because they date back to the original construction of the church in the late 1800's.

"The stained windows, they're one of a kind," Terry explained. "They have been here for so long. You've never seen anything like it, great piece of art."

In addition, police say a brass lamp fixture built into the staircase post was taken.

Authorities say other objects were moved, but nothing else appeared to be missing.

Due to the significant historical value of the stolen items, the FBI is involved in the investigation.
