PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police believe two men were responsible for slashing the tires of dozens of cars in West Philadelphia Neighborhood in what frustrated neighbors call a senseless crime.

The puncture route is seven blocks of Media Street. between 54th and 61st streets. One Jeep Cherokee at 56th and Media streets had three or four tires slashed.

Frustrated owners say they'll be out of pocket for the fix.

"Ignorant and too much unnecessary time on their hands. They need to get a job and do some other things with their time," said one resident.

"I don't know what people be thinking, but it definitely was mean-spirited," said another resident.

Southwest Detectives Capt. Frank Milillo says the original count was 71 vehicles hit. At midday Tuesday, 47 vehicles were confirmed. Some neighbors already fixed their slashed tires.

Milillo says one recovered video depicts two men walking curbside at 1 a.m. Tuesday.

"The view's from across the street, so we're gonna see what we can do with that, a doorbell camera, a regular camera, in a business or a home. Please contact us," he said.

Investigators are also dusting vehicles for possible fingerprints.

Police are asking for the public's help. If anyone has information, please call 686-TIPS or Southwest Detectives at 686-3183, or send information to tips@phillypolice.com
