PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are asking for the public's help in finding two men who attacked women around the same time in the same Center City neighborhood early Sunday morning.

"The similarities are close in distance, close in time. I mean, it's almost simultaneous," said Special Victims Capt. Mark Burgmann.

However, Burgmann said, the attacks were not connected.

"The first one was the report of a rape that occurred in the 1200 block of Latimer Street. This involved a 37-year-old female, who reported that she was walking on the street when she was approached by the offender, who forced her onto a parking lot and sexually assaulted and raped this woman before fleeing."

The woman described her attacked as being between 30 and 40 years old, thin, and medium-height.

A block and a half away, on 13th Street, a man in a red Mitsubishi Galant pulled over and went after a 24-year-old woman, who was walking her dog. Burgmann said surveillance cameras indicate he had stalked her first.

"We see the Mitsubishi go by, makes a right-hand turn, circles the block. She goes in the opposite direction to return home — that's when the Mitsubishi pulls up, passes her, parks, gets out quickly, and approaches her. That's when he punches her and orders her into the vehicle. She refused to do so and she immediately fled with her dog. The offender went back to his vehicle and also fled," Burgmann said.

The victim described him as young, in his late teens or early 20s, slender, about 5-feet, 9-inches tall. She said he was wearing a black T-shirt and shorts, and black sneakers.

Both women were treated for minor injuries.
