Police: Man killed after gunman opens fire in West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in West Philadelphia Thursday night.

Authorities say the shooting took place around 8:45 p.m. near 55th and Cedar Streets.

The victim, an unidentified 23-year-old male, was rushed to the hospial in critical condition after he sustained a gun shot wound to the head, according to police.

Police say, a short time later, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

Police believe the shooter lives in the neighborhood and is between 16 and 20-years-old.
