PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are asking the public to help them find the source of a mysterious video that was posted on social media.

They are investigating the incident after they received the video via Twitter last week, which was posted by an unknown source.

The clip depicts a motorist purposely running over a cyclist in Southwest Philly, who was riding in the bike lane at night.

The Philadelphia Police Department is trying to determine the authenticity of the video.

"[The video> looks like a gentleman riding a bike eastbound on Florence at the 5200 block," said Lt. John Walker, "where the car veers to the right, strikes the driver of the bicycle, knocking him under the car. Then the video stops at that point."

However, police believe the video might have been filmed around May 10, but no hit-and-run has been reported in connection with the alleged incident.

The clip has since been retweeted more than 4,000 times.

Authorities still haven't determined if it was a stunt.

"If this is a bad prank, we need to know," said Walker. "And if it is not and there is someone injured out there, we also need to know that."
