PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia Police are searching for the man who crashed a car and fled in front of 30th Street Station early Tuesday morning.

For much of the morning, the white, four-door Ford sedan with Illinois license plates was half on the sidewalk, with the smashed-up front sticking out onto Schuylkill Avenue by Market Street. The front fender is smashed and the wheel well is torn away from the car.

Police say around 4 a.m. the driver dropped off a woman at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. She had been shot. Police say they wanted to talk to the man, but he drove off. Officials say University of Pennsylvania police then pursued him until he crashed, jumped out of the car and ran away.

Detectives have been on the scene gathering evidence all morning.

Cars are able to get onto Schuylkill Avenue towards I-76 and I-676, but police have the side of the road and this car blocked off.

Police say no officers or people on the street were hurt. It's not yet clear where in the city the woman was shot.
