PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A very popular yearly carnival in Delaware County is shutting down for good after a massive fight broke out Thursday night.

The Aston Township Fire Department's Annual Spring Carnival serves as their biggest fundraiser of the year. But around 9:30 p.m., the Aston Township Police Department and cops from many surrounding towns responded to several fights that broke out among the massive crowd that had gathered.

People at the carnival told CBS 3 Eyewitness News that things got crazy in a hurry.

"You heard a bunch of cops screaming, 'Get out! Everybody get out!'" said one woman. "There was at least 30 cops running. I mean, it was scary."

Police were able to gain control, and several people were arrested. The president of the Aston Fire Department, Sean Joyce, apologized to the township in a written statement, saying the carnival that "was once a local family tradition, has turned into a landing spot for out-of-town troublemakers."

The carnival was supposed to run through Saturday, but in his statement Joyce says it has been shut down permanently.
