PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A donation from a radio giant is the largest scholarship gift ever to Community College of Philadelphia.

The $1 million gift from the Joseph and Marie Field Foundation will be used over five years to fund CCP scholarships for students who delayed their college careers.

Community College of Philadelphia President Dr. Guy Generals says the seed for the gift was planted in February, when CCP honored Entercom Communications founder Joe Field with its Judge Edward Becker Citizenship award.

"He and I got to talking at the breakfast table. And giving him a sense of some of the things we're doing, I don't think he knew that much about the college. And I think it sparked his interest in what we were doing," Generals said.

Entercom is the owner of KYW Newsradio.

Generals said the Joseph and Marie Field Foundation Scholarship will allow students who didn't enroll in college immediately after high school the opportunity to attend CCP.

Students have to file for financial aid to qualify.

CCP will begin accepting scholarship applications on Monday at
