PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Officials in Delaware County hired a firm to do a risk analysis assessment of the proposed Mariner East 2 Pipeline. A councilman says the results were not exactly what he expected.

G2 Integrated Solutions put the report together and found residents living near the pipeline are more likely to die in a car accident or house fire than from an issue with the proposed pipeline that would run from Northampton County to Marcus Hook.

"From my perspective, this report showed perhaps a lower probability of an event happening than I would have guessed, but a higher severity of an accident should such an accident occur," Delaware County Councilman Brian Zidek said.

Zidek says G2 will hold a public hearing in the coming weeks so everyone can better understand the report. He thinks it's especially important for first responders to get a chance to ask some questions.

"To make sure that we have better plans in place to keep our citizens safe," he said.

No date for a hearing has been announced.
