PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A South Jersey man is recovering from third-degree burns after being set on fire.

Ray Mullen went to his friend's house after work March 15 and fell asleep on the couch.

"And the next thing I know, I woke up and I was on fire," Mullen said.

The 27-year-old Brigantine man says he got up and ran outside in a panic to extinguish the flames.

"I was trying to pat the fire out. It was a small fire at first. And the next thing I knew, I was in so much flames, I could hardly even see," he said.

He says someone had squirted lighter fluid on him while he was on fire.

"There was a group of kids there as well. Nobody did anything to help. Everybody just kind of stood around like it was a show," he said.

Two men, 23-year-old Brandon Perez and 24-year-old David Sult, were arrested and charged with aggravated assault and arson. They're out on bail.

"I saw the one kid, Dave, was on Facebook, was out fishing, posting pictures that he's out fishing, having a good time like it's nothing," Mullen said. "It's disgusting. It's unbelieveable."

Mullen says he still has extensive wounds on 30% of his body, and it will probably be at least a year before he can return to work. He is currently raising money to help cover the expenses of his recovery.
