PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — For people who are not all "shopped out" after Friday's bargain bonanza, Sunday brings a special event at some stores that many might not have considered on their holiday lists.

Gift shops at Philadelphia museums carry a lot of unique items — and most of the time, a ticket is not needed to get in.

"We have the small business component of supporting your local communities. We have the philanthropic component of giving back to your local nonprofits," Barnes Foundation director of retail operations Julie Steiner said.

The Barnes is one of more than 1,000 museums across the country taking part in Museum Store Day, offering 25 percent off on Sunday.

"One of the things we focus on is handmade artisanal craft from local and regional artists," Steiner said.

The store has pottery, furniture, tapestries, glassware and other items that nod to the Barnes' post-impressionist and early modern collection.

"In the shop we focus on those items and bring in contemporary local potters, fabric artists, glassmakers and jewelers who are making art in the same traditions as those pieces collected for the Barnes Foundation," she said.

There are 18 museums in Greater Philadelphia participating.
