PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — For the sixth year in a row, SEPTA's elves got to have some fun with their holiday bus decoration contest.

From Santa to the Grinch, the elaborately themed buses were definitely a sight for sore eyes.

Vehicles from the eight-bus district were decked from the inside out. There were Christmas trees, reindeer, and even fireplaces.

"It's a lot of work, but we always have fun doing it and every year it gets better and better," said Joseph Gibson, a mechanic for SEPTA.

He said his team definitely put some elbow grease into their Nutcracker-themed bus.

"Started watching the movies, cartoons, got the colors together and started cutting out the cardboard and paint and stuff," he said.

If you or your kids want to catch the buses — on display, that is — they'll be in Center City near Macy's on Saturday.

Kids ages 4 to 16 also take a free ride with a paying adult on the decorated trolleys from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The trolley goes from 40th Street to Dilworth Park.

Hot chocolate, treats and holiday projects will be on site at stations to make it a party for the kids.
