WARMINSTER, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) -- A hockey shootout and free ice skating fundraiser Saturday, in Warminster, looks to bring attention to the opioid epidemic.

Money raised at the shootout will help people who are just getting started on their path to sobriety.

Maggie Hunt from Retreat Addiction Treatment Centers, in recovery herself, helped organize the event and says they wanted to do something fun to bring people together.

"I'm tired of having my friends die, and I think that early on in sobriety," she explains. "When you have events like this, and you have people surrounding you, there's strength in numbers."

Hunt says getting clean is hard enough, without financial hardship, and their goal is to help as much as possible.

"People need help paying for treatment, paying for a recovery house, paying for clothes for an interview or mental health medication," she said.

Most of all, Hunt says she hopes to shine a light on the darkness of addiction and make sure people know that it is okay to ask for help.

Saturday's fundraiser will take place at 4 p.m. at the Bucks County Ice Sports Center, in Warminster.
