PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Spring workouts are in the books for the University of Pennsylvania football team.

The Quakers are coming off a 6-4 2018 season (3-4 Ivy League). Their spring workouts were a bit unusual this time around because they inlcuded eight days spent overseas in China promoting Penn and American football. But whether in Philadelphia or overseas, the Quakers got their work in, and head coach Ray Priore liked what he saw.

"I think it's all about development in the offseason, and we got a chance to watch our young kids grow," he said. "You see them in the winter time lifting, and you apply it now onto the field, which is great."

Quakers have three new coaches on staff this season, with the most notable addition being new offensive coordinator Kevin Morris. He joins the Quakers after spending five seasons as the OC at Monmouth.

"He's proven as a coordinator," Priore said. "He's had a tremendous amount of success everywhere he's been. I think the kids will love the upbeat style of what our offense is transitioning to. Conceptually, a lot of the same things, it's really how you apply it."

Morris replaces John Reagan who left Penn after a successful four-year run to take over as the offensive line coach at the University of Maryland.

Priore talks about some of the position groups he was anxious to see develop in the spring.

"One was the offensive line," he said. "I thought, collectively with that group, you saw them grow. Tight ends, as well. Coming in we had a lot of young players, and I thought they really applied themselves and did a nice job. Some young defensive backs, I thought that was another area where we had some loss of some talent, but those younger kids really stepped it up in the spring. But we're still six months out from Delaware (2019 opening game), and we're still a work in progress."
