PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A new statewide system update is closing down all offices of the Department of Human Services this Friday through Monday.

Lisa Watson, deputy secretary of the Office of Income Maintenance, says smaller parts of the old statewide system have been upgraded over the last few years.

"This weekend is one of the largest ones, and it's actually focusing on part of our system that does the eligibility for our cash and long-term care programs," Watson said,

As a result, County Assistance Offices are closed on Friday for the upgrades and on Monday for the President's Day holiday. Watson says the shutdown will not affect the use of EBT cards or food stamps for clients.

"If they have an electronic benefit card that has money on it, whether it's cash or SNAP benefits, they will still have access to that. They will still be able to use that throughout the weekend, as long as they have those funds available," she said.

Anyone who has questions about the weekend shutdown can call their county assistance office. Questions about Electronic Benefit Transfer, or EBT cards, can be directed to 888-328-7366.
