Tina Fey makes surprise appearance at alma mater

She filmed a promo for her new 'Mean Girls' musical

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Once a Royal, always a Royal.

Tina Fey returned to her alma mater Wednesday.

The "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock" star spoke with students at Upper Darby High School. 

She also filmed a promotional video for her Broadway musical "Mean Girls," according to the district's Facebook page. 

Fey was also serenaded by the school's Encore Singers. During the performance she teared up, gave the students a round of applause, called their singing beautiful and revealed she was an alto. 

"Mean Girls," based on the hit 2004 film, is nominated for 12 Tony Award including Best Musical, Best Actress in a Musical and Best Featured Actor in a Musical. Fey is nominated for Best Book of a Musical.
