In tragic driving lesson, girl strikes and kills two men in Port Richmond

Police say the teen was learning to drive with her mother.

PORT RICHMOND (KYW Newsradio) — Two men were killed in Port Richmond on Monday night when a girl learning to drive struck them with a Ford Explorer in a shopping center parking lot at Aramingo and Castor avenues. 

Philadelphia Police say the 15-year-old girl was learning to drive with her mother. As the SUV jumped forward over a curb, two men who were sitting nearby were both hit just before 9 p.m.

Both men were around 50 years old. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was transported to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he later died.

The identities of the two victims have not yet been released. 

The police investigation continues. There is no word at this time if charges will be filed against the driver.
