UPPER DARBY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A mother and father are behind bars after their toddler, left alone, fell out a second-floor window of an Upper Darby home on Monday.

Officers were called out to the home in the 300 block of Hampden Road around 5:30 p.m.

Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood explained what they found on arrival. "A neighbor was holding the child, who was 3 years of age," he said. "Had significant facial and head injuries."

The parents were nowhere to be found.

"Apparently the child was left alone for several hours. The father was supposed to be watching the child," Chitwood said. "We weren't able to contact the father until 11 o'clock."

The child's mother said she was at work and then the store. Both parents, 31-year-old Legbo Wanhi and 29-year-old Lea Wanhi, are charged with endangering the welfare of a child and other crimes. Both are being held in the George Hull Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $30,000 bail.
