PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A walk and run is set for this Saturday in Fairmount Park to raise money to find a cure for migraines.

Imagine living with pain, nausea, fatigue and sensitivity to light and sound and you don't know when they'll strike. That's reality for Shirley Kessel, executive director of Miles for Migraine.

"I am on the new class of drug and it's helping me significantly. I went from 15 to 20 headache days a month, now I'm at six or seven," she said.

That's six or seven days off from work, out of school, shut away in a dark room every month.

Shirley had her first migraine at 17, which now amounts to 40 years of suffering.

"Migraine is an inherited disease. My mother was severely impacted and two of my three daughters have migraine," she added.

The Miles for Migraine event starts at 8:30 Saturday morning at Valley Green in Fairmount Park.
