Woman jumps into Schuylkill River while fleeing crash in Montgomery County; Trooper injured

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- A woman is in police custody after she tried to flee the scene of a crash in Montgomery County by jumping into the Schuylkill River.

The accident happened just before midnight at Matsons Ford Road and Fayette Street in Conshohocken.

Pennsylvania State Police said the driver of an SUV struck at least one other vehicle before losing control and striking a concrete barrier along the Fayette Street Bridge.

Authorities said after the accident, a woman riding in the SUV attempted to escape the scene by jumping into the Schuylkill River.

She was quickly apprehended and arrested along with a second person inside the vehicle.

Police said a trooper was hurt when he fell down some steps while trying to pull the woman out of the water.

He was taken to the hospital and was expected to be okay.

Police were investigating the cause of the crash. There was no immediate word on charges.
