PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Wings are continuing to put together their roster for the upcoming season.

First, they added players in the Expansion Draft, and now, the focus is on free agency.

The Wings have signed several players over the last couple of weeks, including someone who is quite familiar with the Philadelphia lacrosse scene.

Transition player Matt McMahon was a star at the University of Pennsylvania, who has spent the first part of his pro career playing the field game in Major League Lacrosse.

"I'm certainly pumped to be making the transition to box, and I couldn't be more excited to do so over in Philadelphia," he said.

The North Jersey native added this is the right opportunity at the right time for him.

"Playing my college career in Philadelphia was an awesome experience," he said. "So when I saw the team was coming back to Philly, I was definitely intrigued by the opportunity and it kind of timed up well as I begin to make my foray into box lacrosse. So it feels like a good fit for both sides."

The 25-year-old McMahon noted there are differences between the box game as opposed to the field game.

"It's definitely more of an emphasis on the skill aspect" in box lacrosse, he explained. "In the field game, it's a much bigger arena, so I think a lot more of the emphasis gets put on the athleticism. I think that in the box game, you've certainly got to develop your finer skills — you have a lot less room to operate. That's a part of my game I'm definitely going to have to work on during this transition."

McMahon was a first-team All-Ivy selection as a senior at Penn back in 2015.
