PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) - Philadelphia now has a new burn center to treat area patients in need.

The Jefferson Burn Center has joined an elite group of local hospitals with special teams to handle burns victims.

Director, Dr. William Hughes, has been treating these injuries for decades at other facilities. He says these are not common issues.

"The most common thing that we see is actually cooking accidents and they're painful," Dr. Hughes tells KYW Newsradio, "they hurt, sometimes the hands or face, people are upset about that because the hands and face are what you see and we try to assure them that in the long run they won't have a problem."

His team will include specialists in skin grafts, rehabilitation and burn related counseling.

The center is open at 1100 Walnut Street.
