PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Police Department is honoring a special member of its fallen force.

On Sunday, police announced in a tweet that its police dog Kane died after battling cancer. The K-9 has been a part of the police force serving the city since 2012.

"We salute K9 Kane, badge #K588, who peacefully passed away this morning after a battle with cancer," read the tweet. He "will be greatly missed by all of his two and four-legged friends."

Police Deputy Commissioner Joe Sullivan added that Kane was a "beloved member" of the police family.
