PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) - The keg is tapped, and Philly Beer Week 2018 has officially begun!

Massive crowds filled The Fillmore in Fishtown for Opening Tap Friday night. Many in attendance are what you call serious beer drinkers.

"It's like religion," said Eli. "And I'm a Rabbi."

"More than life itself," said Kim Moebus when KYW Newsradio asked her how much she loves beer.

Everyone took a break from their unlimited beer samples to welcome the famous Hammer of Glory. Then, it was back to drinking.

"A lot of fun, a lot of beer that's all you can ask for," said Ben. "Just trying all different types, finding new types you didn't know existed. It's nice."

"A lot of good beer," added his friend, Amanda. "It's great, you get a little sample of everything."

Over 60 breweries were at Opening Tap, serving up more than 100 different styles of beer.

"A lot of local breweries here, every type of beer style you can imagine is here right now, whether it be local or international, so you're going to find something that you like here," said Devin Zuczek, who attended with Adriana Borgia.

"It's great," she said, "It's also slightly painful. You go through the whole week and you want to do everything, you want to experience all the things."

There will be no shortage of activities throughout the duration of Philly Beer Week, which continues through June 10th.
