An aide to Vice President Mike Pence has tested positive for coronavirus, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany confirmed Friday during a press briefing.

It was later confirmed that the aide is Katie Miller, a spokesperson for Pence, and the wife of White House senior adviser Stephen Miller, who writes most of Trump’s speeches and spends a lot of time with Trump, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.

Initially, a pool report had said that the aide, along with other staffers, exited Air Force 2 Friday morning before it took off for Iowa from Andrews Air Force Base. The plane was delayed by an hour, according to the pool report.

But when the plane landed in Iowa, the pool report was updated that the aide tested positive for coronavirus Friday morning after testing negative on Thursday -- and was not on the plane.

The aide had possibly been in contact with six people scheduled to fly, so those individuals were removed from the flight.

"This morning we had someone on the vice president's staff test positive and so out of abundance of caution we went back and looked into all the person's contacts most recently," the administration official told reporters on the plane en route to Iowa. "That's why we asked some of our staff to deplane. Nobody else was exhibiting any symptoms or having any feeling of sickness. We asked them to go get tested and to go home out of an abundance of caution."

The official said about 10 members of Pence's staff are tested daily.

"The person who tested positive was not on the plane and not scheduled to be on the trip," the official said. "That's why we were delayed and taking care of that. The vice president and the president have not had contact with this person recently."

The official said Pence was tested Friday morning and is tested daily.

Word of the positive diagnosis comes one day after it was confirmed that President Trump's personal valet also has tested positive for the potentially-deadly virus.
