GLASBORO, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — The Rowan University softball team had to battle two opponents this past weekend in the Super Regionals of the NCAA Tourney: Moravian College and the weather.

Rain caused a couple of postponements in Glassboro, but once the clouds parted, the Profs took care of business with a pair of 2-1 wins over Moravian.

"We definitely had our challenges with the weather," said Rowan head coach Kim Wilson.

Now, Rowan is down in Oklahoma City getting ready for the NCAA Championship Tournament Finals. The 39-11-1 Profs will open things up Thursday night taking on Illinois Wesleyan.

"The kids are really excited," Wilson said. "I'm on the national committee for the NCAA, so I was here in Oklahoma City last year for the championship. I was sitting in the stands looking out and kind of saying to myself, 'I want my team to experience this.' Division III doesn't get to play in Oklahoma City all the time and a year later, we're actually here and I'm here with my kids. It gives me chills; I'm so excited for them."

Illinois Wesleyan comes into the double-elimination finals at 36-11-1.

"They're a good team," Wilson noted. "Everybody here has won a lot of games in the last few weekends, so they're all playing their best softball right now."

She said if they stick to their pace — go base-to-base, end up scoring one more run than they do — they'll be successful.

These are two of eight teams in Oklahoma City for the finals.

Rowan last made it to the championship tournament back in 2016, finishing third.

Thursday night's game will get underway at 7:30 p.m.
