PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- It might not yet be winter, but folks have started ice skating at City Hall.

The Rothman Institute Ice Rink at City Hall has officially opened for the season and it had already attracted a lot of skaters on its first day.

"It's making me feel like the season is coming around,” one person said. “A lot of festivities going on and it's going to be a lot of fun."

The Center City District celebrated the first day of the season with a live ice sculptor and fire demonstration.

"It's crazy,” said another woman. “It came out of nowhere, the end of the year is right around the corner; but it's nice.  It's a nice day for it."

Reporter:  "Can you believe we're kind of into that season already?"

"I know, it was just Halloween and then the weather turned colder, and now here we are," one attendee said.

The rink will be open seven days a week through February 24, which is the last Sunday in February.
