PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) - If you're interested in becoming a Philadelphia Police Officer, the department is looking to hire recruits now through June 29th.

The PPD Recruitment Unit headed to Blue Cross RiverRink of all places Thursday night to spread the word.

"A lot of times people don't think we do normal things, so having this opportunity to skate, it shows we're real people, we do real things on duty, off duty," explained Sergeant Robert Ryan.

Ryan is a former national skating champion.

"So I'm the one who is skating in uniform," he said. "I'm not doing anything real hard, but just enough to skate around."

But this "Roll with your Recruiter" event wasn't just fun and games. Ryan and other recruiting officers had a table set up with information for anybody looking to join the force.

"We're looking for those who are culturally, ethically diverse," he said, "as well as all members of the community who want to serve the community, make a difference."
